National Grilled Cheese Day featuring the Blood Mary

Grilled cheese is not just a staple of American comfort food, but it has even earned its own special day. What better way to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day than to pair the classic sandwich with our tomato-filled favorite cocktail, the Bloody Mary? It’s an essential pairing that provides an eclectic burst of flavors. Here is the best, simple Grilled Cheese and Bloody Mary recipe for you to take full advantage of the day:

Bloody Mary

Put all the vegetables in a food processor or blender and blitz to a pulp. Add all the remaining ingredients and blitz again.

 

1 cucumber

2 red peppers

3 tomatoes

2 bunches of cherry tomatoes

2 garlic cloves

2 oz of Blue Ice Vodka

1 oz of water

1 pinch of saffron

2 drops of Tabasco

1 pinch of sugar

.5 oz of white wine vinegar

1 dash of salt

1 dash of Worcestershire sauce

 

Method:

 

In a cocktail mixer full of ice, combine the Blue Ice Vodka, vegetable juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, salt and pepper. Shake vigorously and strain into the glass. Garnish with a stalk of celery and olives stuck onto a toothpick.

 

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

 

Butter each piece of bread with butter on one side.

Place the cheese on the buttered side of one piece of bread. Top it with the second piece of bread.

Heat a nonstick pan over medium low heat.

Place the sandwich on the pan.

Cook for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.

Using a spatula, flip the sandwich over and continue cooking until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.

Mount a toothpick into the Bloody Mary and enjoy!
